For organizations that need maximum security and downloadable desktop applications, Microsoft offers Business Premium at a fraction of the commercial cost (often free for the first 10 users, and heavily subsidized thereafter).
This includes the full suite of desktop apps, but more importantly, it includes Microsoft Defender and Intune. This allows the charity to remotely manage devices, enforce security policies, and remotely wipe data if a volunteer loses a laptop containing sensitive client information.
Eligibility and the Application Process
Microsoft partners with TechSoup to verify the non-profit status of applicants. To qualify in Ireland, you generally must be recognized as a charitable organization (e.g., registered with the Charities Regulator and holding a CHY number).
The Challenge
While the licensing is free, the setup is not automatic. Many charities get approved for the grant but lack the technical expertise to securely configure the tenant, set up their DNS records, migrate their old emails, and train their volunteers on how to use SharePoint properly.
